India needs a set of enterprises and individuals to fill this eco-system gap. I2india aims to do just that.
Imperial Innovations, India (i2india) is a joint venture between Imperial College and several NRI business-people who want to pioneer IPR commercialization in India. Interestingly, the conditions in India today are more similar to the UK environment 8-10 years ago than with the US environment. As distinct from the Silicon Valley model, where an informal eco-system for product-innovation & entrepreneurship has existed for quite a while, the UK experience is different. Imperial College had to fund an institutional effort to seed IPR commercialization in London and after nearly 2 decades, it has created one of the most successful IPR innovation and commercialization success stories. These experiences are directly relevant to India.
i2inda aims to bring the UK experience and examples of IPR commercialization to India. We have already established partnerships with various IITs, IISc, CSIR Labs, IIMs, Tata Group and various other leading R&D organizations.
